Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are widely recognised as India’s top Business Schools for management education and research. The oldest IIMs are Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bangaluru, and Lucknow. IIMs produce world class business management graduates at the post-graduate and doctoral level and offer a range of Management Development Programs. The most coveted program of IIMs is the 2-year full-time residential PGP (Post-Graduate Program) equivalent to MBA degree. The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is also a full-time program equivalent to Ph.D. Degree. Management Development Programs are both open enrolment and customised programs for mid-career working professionals.

Admission to the PGP in IIMs is strictly based on merit and assessment of a written test, which is the first step, called Common Admission Test popularly known as CAT. The selection process after successful scoring in CAT involves a Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI). CAT is a once in a year, computer-based, aptitude test which is probably one of the most competitive management entrance exams in the world. CAT scores are also widely accepted in India across independent Business Schools and Universities for admission to their respective Management Programs.
